About Fallon CountyFallon County is located on the southeastern border of Montana. It’s a small agricultural county with a population of around 2,176 people. Fallon County has only two towns, Plevna and Baker, but several other “ghost towns” including Westmore, Willard, Webster and others. Baker is the county seat and has a population of 1,990 people.
During WWI, the men of Fallon County entered the draft for the war. About 1,652 men from the age 18-45 registered for the draft, and only 14% or 231 men of those drafted actually served. Men who enlisted could be sent off to a number of different divisions and regiments including the 2nd Montana Regiment. There were also several women who served in the war as nurses. Other ways Fallon County helped out with the war was in the growing of crops, rationing of food, and the purchase of liberty bonds. Liberty bonds were war bonds that were sold in the United States to support the Allies in WWI. These helped the soldiers out because the bonds helped them get the supplies they needed during the war. The women of Fallon County also helped out by taking over the small farms of their husbands while they were away.
