Clarence Heiser
Clarence Heiser, was born on July 23, 1894 in Common, South Dakota. At the age of 20 Clarence moved to Fergus County and established a homestead. Clarence then enlisted into World War One at the age of 23. Although he was born on on July 23, 1894 Clarence put that he was born July 16, 1891 putting him at the age of 25. Heiser was deployed to France. Clarence was part of the 49th Artillery. On March 2, 1919 Clarence returned home after the Armistice in 1918 but he did not leave France until 1919. Heiser left France on the USS Panaman. After the war, Heiser came back to the US and went back to Aberdeen and worked as a boilermaker. After five years Clarence came back to the big sky country to farm and ranch. Bernie Heiser, brother of Clarence, opened a bar in the small town of Baker and asked Clarence to go into the business with him. Clarence sold his livestock and machinery, married Ruth and moved to Baker. Later, Clarence became sole owner of the bar in its current establishment on Main Street in Baker.
